THE MOONLIT GIFT NOTES

Choosing personalised books for siblings

Celebrate an older child’s new role, or give siblings a story to share. The right choice begins with who the gift is for.

Two different kinds of sibling present

A sibling book can mean a present for a child becoming a big sister or big brother, or a shared story that includes several children. These are different gifts. The first celebrates the older child’s own place in the family. The second gives siblings a common adventure to read together. Decide which moment you want to mark before choosing a title or entering any names.

You do not need a new baby in the family to give siblings a shared story. It can be a Christmas tradition, a present from grandparents or something to enjoy at bedtime. Equally, a big sibling gift does not have to include the baby’s name to be meaningful. Read the product description and order form carefully, because personalisation options belong to the individual book.

A book for the new big sister or big brother

Big Sister & Big Brother is a printed keepsake celebrating the older child. Choose the Big Sister or Big Brother edition, then enter that child’s first name and a dedication. The current form allows an older child’s first name up to 25 characters and a dedication up to 250 characters, or DEFAULT. Four printed formats are available.

Sample names such as Sofia and Noah show the existing design and are replaced with the name supplied in your order. This product’s form asks for the older child’s name; it does not ask you to personalise a second baby character. If you want to mention the new arrival, you can do so in your dedication within the stated limit. Check the gallery to see what is included in the selected edition.

Acknowledge the child without adding pressure

A gift for an older sibling can simply say that they matter and are loved. Keep the message warm rather than making the child responsible for the baby’s happiness or care. For example: “For Amelia, our wonderful big sister. We love your stories, your laughter and everything that makes you you. Love, Mummy and Daddy.” Adapt the family wording so it sounds natural to the recipient.

Choose a quiet moment to give the present if that suits the family. The child may want to read it immediately, return to it later or spend time talking about their own day instead. There is no need to expect a particular reaction. Parents can enjoy the book as one small shared activity, alongside the ordinary attention and routines the child already knows.

A shared story for one to four children

The Christmas Eve Lantern supports one, two, three or four children in one festive story. A robin and a little lantern lead the children through an adventure about small acts of kindness. Their names appear on the cover and in the story. You can also add the supported town or village, gift-giver details and dedication.

Choose the number of children first, then enter exactly one first name per child, separated by commas and in the order you want printed. Each name can be up to 22 characters, with 100 characters in total. The price depends on the printed format rather than the number of children. The illustrated characters are part of the story design; the product does not require a photo.

One shared book or separate keepsakes?

A shared book can suit children who enjoy listening together and a family wanting one Christmas Eve tradition. Separate books may be a better gift when the children have very different interests or each wants a keepsake with their own dedication. Neither approach is automatically fairer. Think about how the family will use the presents and check with a parent if you are buying from outside the household.

If you choose separate books, keep each child’s name and message distinct. A dinosaur story and a bedtime story can be equally thoughtful even though the themes differ. If you choose one shared book, be clear in your gift card that it belongs to all the named children. Do not enter two names into a one-child product’s name field and assume the story will become a sibling edition.

Dedications from grandparents and relatives

For a shared gift, address every child you intend to include and sign with the familiar family name they know. A simple example is: “For Leo and Isla, a little Christmas story for cosy evenings together. With all our love, Grandma and Grandad.” For a new big sibling, keep the older child at the centre of the message rather than turning the dedication entirely into congratulations for the baby.

Check spelling and name order with the parents, particularly when children use nicknames or have similar names. Read the dedication aloud and confirm its character limit on the chosen product. Our dedication guide offers starting points, and the grandparents guide includes ideas for a personal family gift.

Plan the format and arrival date

These are paper-page books for shared reading, not board books. Compare sizes and current prices on the individual product page. For a baby’s arrival or a Christmas gathering, allow time for preparation, printing and delivery, and check the product’s estimate alongside our delivery information. If a date is close, contact us before ordering. Delivery estimates are not guaranteed arrival dates.

Frequently asked questions

Whose name goes in the Big Sister or Big Brother book?

Enter the older child’s first name and select the matching Big Sister or Big Brother edition. The current product does not request a second baby character.

How many children can appear in the Christmas Eve Lantern?

The Christmas Eve Lantern supports one to four children. Select the number first, then enter one first name per child, separated by commas in your preferred order.

Can I turn any one-child book into a sibling story?

No. Use a product that explicitly supports multiple children. Adding several names to a one-child name field does not create a sibling edition.
