GIFT IDEAS & GUIDES

A personal book gift for Dad, from the children

Choose a story for his birthday or a book they can enjoy reading together.

A present from a young child does not need a polished speech or a long list of reasons to be meaningful. The best starting point is something the child and dad actually share: a bedtime story, a familiar game or a birthday moment. A personalised book can carry that feeling in a dedication, while giving them something to read together.

Match the gift to the occasion

A birthday after becoming a dad is different from Father’s Day, and a gift from a baby is different from one an older child helps choose. Start with the occasion. Our Daddy, Look What We Made is a dad birthday storybook. Check its product description and sample pages before choosing it for another occasion. A birthday-specific story may not suit a general thank-you gift.

Personalise the details the book supports

Read the order fields on the product page, including the available names and dad title options. Use the family’s usual wording where it is supported. Do not assume that extra people, ages, photographs or scenes can be added because the book is personalised. If the form does not support what you need, ask us before buying. A dedication can carry your own words without changing the whole story.

A dedication from a baby

You can write on the child’s behalf and keep the tone simple: “Happy birthday, Daddy. Here is a little story for all the big adventures we will share. Love from [Name].” If the gift is celebrating dad’s first birthday as a parent, say that clearly in your message. A date or year makes a useful keepsake detail when there is room. Check the product’s character limit before submitting it.

A dedication an older child can help with

Ask the child for one thing they enjoy doing with dad. Write their answer in their own voice: “I love our funny voices at story time. Happy birthday, Dad. Love from [Name].” There is no need to make the message sound more adult. For inspiration, read our dedication guide, then adapt the words to the family.

When another story may be a better gift

If the goal is a book for dad to read with the child, rather than a story celebrating dad himself, consider the child’s interests. A dinosaur adventure offers a different reading theme, while a Goodnight book suits a bedtime gift. Make the dedication the message to dad. This distinction helps you choose something they will use after the birthday has passed.

Choose a format they can share

Consider how and where they read. An A5 softcover is compact; a square format has a different layout and size. Hardcover is an option when you want a firm cover for a keepsake. Always check the chosen title’s available formats, current prices and dimensions. The sizes shown in lifestyle mockups can be difficult to judge.

A5 and 21 cm softcover interiors use 150 gsm glossy paper, and 21 cm and 29.4 cm hardcover interiors use 200 gsm glossy paper. These are paper storybooks rather than board books. Our softcover or hardcover guide explains the options. UK delivery is included in the listed book price.

Make the handover personal

Let the child give the wrapped book if they want to, or read the dedication aloud together. A drawing can be tucked alongside the gift as a separate note. It does not need to become part of the printed book to be meaningful. For a baby, a simple family reading moment may be the part dad remembers most.

Check names and timing before payment

Review every name, the dedication and the chosen format. Each book is made to order, so allow time for personalisation and production as well as postage. The delivery page explains current estimates. If you need a particular birthday date, email us before ordering; estimates are not guaranteed arrival dates. Etsy buyers should also check the current listing estimate.

Common questions

Is the dad birthday book a Father’s Day book?

It is presented as a birthday story. Check the sample pages to decide whether it fits your occasion rather than assuming all dad gifts are interchangeable.

Can I add several children?

Only where the chosen title’s order form offers that option. Ask before buying if you are unsure.

Can I upload a photograph?

Not as an extra to the standard book. The separate photo storybook has an Etsy ordering process.
