Choose a milestone story
Look for a story that celebrates the first birthday rather than a general birthday title. Explore the samples in My First Birthday to understand the style.
Think about shared reading
At this stage the adult will often lead the reading. Consider the illustrations and the way the story feels when read aloud; do not assume every printed book is suitable for independent handling.
Check the name and dedication
Confirm the spelling and the available dedication field on the listing. A short message from the giver can make the gift feel personal.
Order around the actual estimate
Check delivery before buying for a party. A keepsake can also be given after the celebration if the estimated window does not fit.
A keepsake for now and a story for later
A first birthday gift can serve two purposes: mark the milestone for the family and provide something to read together afterwards. That does not require the child to understand every word on the day. Choose a story whose illustrations and tone the adults will enjoy sharing, and look for sample pages showing what is inside. My First Birthday is the milestone option in our collection. A general adventure may also be a thoughtful gift, but it will celebrate a different kind of moment. View both rather than assuming a birthday cover tells you everything about the contents.
A useful gift from grandparents or relatives
If you are a grandparent, aunt, uncle or family friend, a short dedication can make clear who gave the book and why. For example: “For your first birthday, with love for all the stories still to come. Grandma and Grandad.” Adapt it to your own voice and confirm the exact character limit on the listing. Ask the parents how they spell the child’s name instead of relying on a social-media nickname. If another relative is also planning a personalised book, coordinate the title or occasion so the family receives different stories rather than duplicate copies.
Paper pages and reading together
These are printed paper-page books. Softcover and hardcover refer to the cover construction, not board pages, and neither should be assumed suitable for unsupervised handling by a baby. Think about who will read the story, where the book will be kept and which dimensions suit that shared moment. A5, square and large formats can look similar in a styled photograph, so check measurements on the actual listing. If the book will be kept as a milestone gift, presentation may matter to you; if the family prefers a smaller read-aloud book, size and budget may matter more.
Planning around the birthday date
Use the current Etsy delivery estimate for the selected edition and address. A personalised order needs production time as well as transit time, and an estimate is not a fixed arrival promise. If the window is too late for the party, a book can still be given afterwards as a birthday keepsake. Do not enter guessed personalisation just to order sooner. Before paying, check the name, dedication where available, cover, format and recipient address together. Our delivery and support page explains how to contact the shop through an existing Etsy order if you notice a mistake or need help with a printing issue.
